What Thumbtack Will Actually Remove — and What It Won’t
A genuine negative review from a real customer stays up, even if it’s harsh. Here’s what does qualify for removal, and how the dispute process actually works.
Yes, in specific cases — Thumbtack removes reviews that violate its Content and Review Policy: reviews not based on an actual or attempted interaction between the pro and the customer, reviews exchanged for an incentive (discount, sweepstakes entry, rebate, or cash), fraudulent or fabricated content, reviews posted outside Thumbtack’s stated timing window, and content that’s off-topic, discriminatory, or otherwise prohibited. A real customer’s genuine but unflattering account of a completed job is not grounds for removal.
Thumbtack’s Content and Review PolicyWhich reviews can be removed?
- The review isn’t based on an actual or attempted interaction between the pro and the customer
- The review was exchanged for an incentive — a discount, sweepstakes entry, rebate, or cash
- The review contains fraudulent, misleading, or deceptive content, including fabricated evidence or misuse of AI-generated media
- The review was posted outside Thumbtack’s window — more than six months after the last interaction or one year after the pro’s last day on the project, whichever is later
- The content is off-topic, discriminatory, or otherwise violates Thumbtack’s user guidelines
If a flag or dispute is denied
Thumbtack’s stated process is to contact Thumbtack directly within 30 days of the review being posted and identify which part of the Content and Review Policy it violates. Thumbtack does not publish a separate, self-service appeal form beyond that contact window.

For reviews that don't qualify for removal, a professional response and a consistent flow of new reviews does more than chasing a removal that isn't coming.
Frequently asked questions
Per Thumbtack’s Content and Review Policy, a pro must contact Thumbtack within 30 days of the review being posted to dispute it, citing the specific policy it violates.
Customers can’t delete a review, but they can update a verified review one time to add detail or clarify their experience. Thumbtack states it rarely edits or deletes reviews itself outside of policy violations.
Yes — Thumbtack allows a pro to post one response to a review. If the review is genuine but unflattering rather than policy-violating, a professional, non-defensive response is often the more effective move than a dispute that isn’t likely to succeed.
